Dress Instructions

Instructions for Sewing Hands dresses

Cut off selvage.

Lay fabric in half with selvage next to you.

Cut TWO 1 ½ x 44 strips from one of the non selvage sides.  These are for straps.

Cut the length of the dress to the size you are making:
     Small          25 ½ inches
     Medium      29 ½ inches
     Large          34 ½ inches
   Ex-Large      37 ½ inches

Cut armpits (use templates)

Cut fold of fabric so you now have two pieces.

Put right sides together and sew sides. Zig Zag your seam

Fold over raw edge twice on arm pits and top stitch.

Make casing at neck by folding over fabric a small amount and then folding again 1 ½ inches.  Top stitch.

To make straps – fold each side in the middle and then fold in half.  Top stitch.  Knot at the ends.  Top stitch in the middle of the casing (back and front) once the straps are in so they don’t fall out.

Hem and Zig Zag your hem

*  If you want to put rick rack on bottom you may want to pin it in place when you are sewing the side seams so they catch the rick rack.

*  Embellish with yo-yos, buttons, pockets, etc.  .

Please email Sharon or Deborah if you would like the arm templates .
